yeah, like I said, I'm not going to defend the poster, but most of the griping I'm seeing is more about the very concept

on the one hand, this gives them credit for long-term planning and thought that most of these clowns absolutely don't deserve. on the other hand...

everyone covering up their hogwarts merch with starfleet stickers would fix society i think

god that would be so funny. everyone getting into a Star Trek teen drama seems too fun to happen in our current timeline but I can dream

also if the vibe they're going for is actually "WB teen drama but make it Star Trek", the poster is...kind of perfect? like, my experience with contemporary Trek is such that I'm not sure I'm willing to assume they did it on purpose, but if they DID, that's actually very promising.

right! like, I'm not especially optimistic, but that's actually because I think the fault of most contemporary live-action Trek has been "cool concept kneecapped by poor execution and/or being too timid and afraid of fan backlash to actually commit".

oh yeah

like, the poster is terrible, no argument here, and given the track record of contemporary Trek (and Paramount's cozying up to the administration) I am apprehensive, but lol the number of people on the Andor site who are mad because the new Trek isn't a shot-for-shot remake of TNG is very funny

god willing!! like, two of my most formative shows were Buffy the Vampire Slayer and DS9; "WB teen drama but make it Star Trek" would've blown teen Jules's mind

honestly, I adore Discovery's first season specifically because it's so ridiculous. it wasn't good, but it was FUN, and had personality in a way that most contemporary live-action Trek is far too afraid of fan reaction for. (it was also the only contemporary Trek that was appropriately horny.)

this prompted me to find an article with a picture of him and I just said "ah, there it is" out loud

oh my god I wanted to scream. they did many female characters dirty but they did Troi SO fucking dirty, it was infuriating.

(I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't hate Ro's story, but I still think it would've been a lot better as an arc rather than crammed into one episode.)

yuuuuuuuup, and 3 comes with a bonus of sidelining and/or character assassination of most of the female characters in the process
