I didn't need another reason to think that stamping out the cult of nostalgia was better, but thanks to this lady for giving one to me gratis
A friend sent this to me and I’m sorry but I am sick of this shit. So many people are doing this weird kind of left-conservativism where they pine for the good old days but with a really sickening kind of moral righteousness smeared over the top. Knock it off!

update: she gets the second round of the distemper vax Friday and then she has an appointment with PAWS for spaying next week, hooray!
the very young (maybe 6 months?) female stray/community cat I’ve been feeding for a couple of weeks in the hopes of getting her comfortable enough with me that she’ll let me take her for shots and spaying showed up with an adult, apparently intact male cat tagging along after her and I’m —

I find it so maddening that anti-trans bigots are infesting Canada, too, and news out of the UK just makes me more determined to fight it. Some places that are that can use help:

that is, uh, terrifying if true.

Like, that is the ne plus ultra bad outcome of "the left's failure to police anti-semitism will open the door to bad actors piggybacking on the movement". It is a scenario, that, if hypothesized prior to this, should've been dismissed as hyperbolic and bad faith.

Looks like the final margin is going to be around 11% but that's still bananas, especially given both how many resources the GOP poured in last minute and the total turnout was pretty much at midterm levels.
14% national swing is the exact kind of shit that starts knocking over reach senate seats like dominoes
14% swing from 2024 when all is said and done? Pretty good considering just how high-profile the race became in the last week

Turnout is currently *93%* of 2022, and it's also a 14% swing from 2022 despite similar turnout levels

@mindi.bsky.social and I challenged each other to write 500 words of Foundation fic this week; I am now ~900 words in and as always seems to happen to me, what was supposed to be very horny, lighter or even slightly comic fic has now turning into a more serious but still also very horny fic

A +14 shift to the Dems in a very red district applied nationwide next year means a solidly blue House and a chance to retake the Senate against an extremely unfavorable map.

Most of the logic behind the perennial "don't put too much stock in special election results" take is built on the outsized impact of motivated Democratic voters in urban/suburban areas. Swings like this in deep rural counties is GOP nightmare fuel.
yeah if these are the kinds of political swings we're getting in Trump country the Republicans are beyond screwed for the midterms

“americans love burger” is true whether your family has been here for 250 days or 250 years
America is extraordinarily radical in that there are tons of different ethnic groups here, and we not only generally get along with each other, but the law treats us all equal equally, and we all do the same shit like eat fried butter.

What MAGA dares to ask is: what if we didn’t
Anyway the best I've ever felt about America was me (Jewish) standing in line with my friend and her daughter (Irish and Latina) to pet a baby lamb at the Minnesota State Fair alongside a hijabi Black woman and her daughter, an East Asian family, an African-American family, and some white people.

Headline in 44pt font: “Dem leaders say Trump can do whatever he wants!”

Body text, paragraph 20: “Dem leaders said that while congressional Republicans let Trump do whatever he wants, once Dems retake power there will be full investigations and prosecutions.”

I feel like this happens constantly.
No one would ever mistake me for a Jeffries defender but this headline really did him dirty. What he DID say is that even though the Republicans will shut down impeachment he expects future criminal prosecutions

a kind of funny thing about this thesis is that it's basically the same as the whole Ygelsias et al. 'moderate on cultural issues to win' thing with the serial numbers filed off. but for some reason this is based economic populism and not pathetic centrist selling out

I'm sympathetic to "Dems haven't insisted on accountability for GOP crimes in many decades" arguments. But it's also true that there has never in my adult lifetime been serious grassroots Dem voter pressure for such accountability.
