New tolkien quote of the day everyday five(ish) days of the week
i RS a lot of mutual aid posts some nsfw🔞

One of the reasons i love tolkien is the theme that despair is an enemy

and it makes clear you don’t need to have constant hope, you can get by with grim determination or spite but never despair
You can be as terrified or nonplussed or unperturbed as you like; the sun will still rise tomorrow & the rent will still be due on the 31st. The world has no romantic narratives for its fate except those we invent, because the world does not die. That is our privilege.
I said it elsewhere, but it’s weirdly exhilarating and addictive to be terrified all the time, and the people addicted to it, when they say this, may as well be saying “I can stop at any time, it’s just the world doing this *to* me.”

they fired the OpenAI product policy VP for "sexually discriminating against a male colleague" after she opposed reorienting the product towards porn. having seen precision/recall numbers for large production abuse systems you do not want to tune for precision.

the basic problem is quacks take customer service and Experience seriously as healthcare as an industry simply doesn’t have to
good context to have - they’ve raised over $1.1 million so far

I truly sympathize with the desperation that sometimes leads families to pursue treatments that can’t be covered by insurance, but it’s also true that the world is full of alt-medicine quacks who will take every dime promising a cure
Thread. I really liked James Van Der Beek, but he supported RFK jr in the ‘24 election. His wife is a MAHA type health influencer. They moved to TX to a 36 acre ranch in 2020, and he’s worked steadily as an actor. He has two projects out this year. SAG insurance is very good.

I wasn't feeling much about the addition of drafts until I remembered a favorite use for them. Saving standouts from the random jumbles of words/concepts that sometimes flow through my train of thought while half-asleep.

artists being a bit too into astrology or crystals is a bad reason to gleefully destroy their livelihood and you’re a bad person for thinking so. You should work on that

He had also worked very hard to reach out to the left and deliver on our policy goals; most of BBB would have been at home in Bernie platform (which indeed is where a lot of it came from) and a lot of that ended up in IRA. Most policy success we have had my entire life, by far.

will not get over that the people that backed biden right up until the end were most of the squad, handful of progressives, motherfucking joe manchin, and like half the cbc, and they were also the ones quickest to back harris instead of doing an insane primary
plus, the left has shown much better "party loyalty" and harm-reduction instincts in the actual voting booth than the center has. PUMA democrats bail to support the right when a more progressive candidate is on the ballot far more than leftists do when the usual centrist is.

It's important that I get a large sample size of answers to this:

This is an interesting piece about how NYT is using AI in its newsroom. (tl;dr: they generate transcripts of the podcasts they're tracking, those transcripts gets summarized, those summaries get delivered in a report to journalists)
When actress Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad became a culture war flashpoint last summer, Times journalists noticed, in part through the reports, that right-wing podcast figures were shaping the backlash. www.niemanlab.org/2026/02/how-...
How The New York Times uses a custom AI tool to track the “manosphere”
The daily podcast round-up is just one way the Times is adopting in-house AI transcription and summarization tools.
