Hi Bluesky
I recognize that this might make us seem like less “objective” journalists, but we have a responsibility as Americans. I, also, don’t really give a shit anymore. And neither does my team. We're joining the general strike tomorrow.

The idea that anti-ICE protesters believe in their cause is really hard for right-wingers to accept. Not because they don't believe in their own cause, but because they can't outwardly say what it is — a fascist ethnostate. An opposing side that can communicate clearly with itself is threatening.
James O’Keefe responds to a comment

“Figured they (ICE protesters) were being paid…”

O’Keefe:

“No, it's more terrifying than that. It's not transactional.

They actually believe in their cause.

That truth is going to be hard for most people to understand or accept.”

Beyond the obvious fact this is all meant to bend the knee to Trump, it's also a fascinating experiment: Can the personalities and formats popular online work on TV? Will it even matter if they work on TV if the clips perform well? It's the internet/TV showdown that we've been building to for years.
Here, in three posts, are the written remarks by Bari Weiss at today's CBS News town hall meeting. Part one of three:

Oops, our U.S. data center partner just so happened have an outage that shadowbanned all left-wing political content on our platform for 48 hours. And this just so happened to coincide with us being purchased by one of Trump's friends. Our bad.

Springfield, Ohio, was the prototype for Minneapolis and, soon, any other community that crosses the Trump administration.

this week's pod is the great @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social from @garbageday.email talking about what he saw on the ground in Minneapolis, how we're all content for ICE, and the through lines from more than a decade of covering revolutions/protests that move from screens to streets

For All Mankind is great because as it has gotten dumber and worse, as a TV show, it has also started exploring some of the most interesting science fiction ideas on TV. It's like gas leak The Expanse. I love it very much.
My god, look at Joel Kinnaman's old man makeup for the upcoming fifth season of For All Mankind:

This slot machine analog nails it, I think. The inherit almost gamification with inconsistent rewards is part of what hooks people who get addicted to LLMs. “Maybe this time it won’t work, but maybe the next prompt will give me something amazing!”
It’s yet another form of gambling, in a way.
I tried vibe coding for the first time this weekend and failed spectacularly. Which was actually kind of illuminating.

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

The complicated reality is there are 3 things happening simultaneously:
-Trump preternaturally understands the ebb and flow of the media and does perform for it
-His inner circle is in a mad dash to turn the US into a fascist ethnostate
-Like all authoritarian regimes, they're grossly incompetent
Cripes a’mighty people, Steven Miller is not staging a militarized ethnic cleansing and sending the border cops to murder people in the street to distract from the Epstein files. He’s doing it because he and Trump (and Vance and Homan and Noem etc) really really want to.

In the same way a streaming "TV show" is no longer truly "televised" or even for televisions, the term "podcast" is quickly becoming a catch-all for a certain kind of show. This will be extremely stupid and confusing for a while and then we'll basically just call every talk show a podcast.

ICE may be shooting people in the face, sending people to concentration camps, and illegally occupying our cities but, apparently, the Democrats think saying, "abolish ICE" is "emotional" and politically "lethal."
