Literally right now we're seeing entire crowds of people show up in Minneapolis to confront armed goons, so maybe you need to revise your dumb civil war fantasies.

LinkedIn is always a swamp of toxic positivity, and the NYT is constantly finding new ways to be chickenshit, but predicting people are going to live off bread, pickles, and vinegar because they're flat broke while calling it "grandmacore" is a new low for them both.

Just a perfect example of what I'm talking about when I talk about confirmation bias. This person was primed to believe this because of TV shows, they saw a post that confirmed their bias, and instead of challenging it they just rolled with it.

Part of the problem here is people seem to think if there aren't swift consequences, there will never be any consequences at all. There's gonna be consequences for this creepy shit, it's really just a question of how they're going to manifest and mechanism.

So remember how Portlandia opened with "The Dream of the 90s is Alive?" That's Northampton, to a WILDLY amusing degree. It's also close to my single favorite used book store of all time, the Book Mill:

It's pretty telling that this person is completely unable to picture getting around without driving, especially in places with multiple options. This really is kind of key, people need to develop a "toolset" view of transit where a car is just one option.

Behold Cambridge next to Alewife. Truly ridiculous.

"Well I'm less immune to propaganda because..."

Because nothing. All it takes to get fooled is for somebody to figure out what you want to hear, and it doesn't matter how smart you are, it only matters how willing you are to hear it. We're all equally vulnerable.

Blueskyers: "But how could somebody so invested in animal rights also be such a frothing racist?"
Me having grown up around "animal rights" "activists"

Post a random picture or else everything will go bad in 2026.

I decided to choose a picture that demonstrates how this is possible. Hire community managers, folks!

I disagree profoundly. Without social media I would be a profoundly more ignorant, and possibly even bigoted, person than I am. Social media has exposed me to viewpoints I would never have seen in a media environment like, say, the 90s or even early 00s. That said... we need a more complex view.

We are literally watching these people do the political equivalent of sitcom pratfalls every fucking day, stop treating them like they're fucking Bond villains and start treating them like they're the evil clods they keep telling us they are.

It's the first day of winter so I took my #bike in the bike and roll lane just to stick it to everyone who whines nobody uses them in the winter. Also I saw five other bikes on the road during my ride.

This really sums up the struggle with climate: A lot of people want it to be strictly group-action when both group and individual action is required.

One of the reasons I have a fairly free hand with the block tool is because quite frankly, by blocking people like this, I'm doing them a huge favor.
December 19, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Yeah, why would somebody who has to spend all day working with people at their lowest moments need to have a broad understanding of the world?
December 18, 2025 at 11:25 PM
Yes, it would be great if my fellow white people stopped believing this. But that would require them to reevaluate, wholesale, what non-white people have been telling them for years and frankly I'm not holding my breath.

This entire paragraph is just the writer announcing they are completely unable to spot a marketing campaign being launched or a possible motive behind it.

At work they have a term called "behavioral safety" that as a concept frankly needs wider play, in part to explain to very stupid people like this the problem with their dumb statements.

As a kid I always loved the Dick Sprang isometric view of the Batcave.

I feel like people need to understand this better: Views tell you nothing and if your gut tells you the views don't reflect the quality of the content, especially if it's political, you're probably right.
