RSA, Department of Justice and Ministers Canny and O’Callaghan need to step up and start constructing a functioning road traffic enforcement system
dublincycling.bsky.social
For sure @ghish.bsky.social enforcement is critical in all this. And we (along with the other groups involved in this 30 km/h campaign) absolutely do advocate for better (MUCH better) enforcement. We can have both, with just a little wisdom and political will!

Minister Canny’s U-turn on safer urban speeds risks lives and life-changing injuries. It cannot be let stand.

We were proud to visit the Dáil today at the invitation of Ciaran Ahern TD
to send the Minister our simple message: No delays. No excuses. Implement the law now.

Ciaran Ferrie's piece in @irishexaminer.bsky.social nails the Govts capitulation on the Speed Limit Review. Identifying the urban roads that should be 50km (arterial) and 30km (everywhere else) is a relatively simple technical exercise with a small bit of guidance. Absolute cowardice.

We’ll be inviting all TDs and Senators to meet our supporters. We’ll also be inviting the media to witness and report on the issue. Please come along if you can.

In 2023, experts unequivocally recommended reduction of urban default speed limits from the present 50km/h to a new safer 30km/h.

But the Department of Transport is now reneging on that, leaving it up to individual Local Authorities to apply 30km/h only on selected streets.

Warning to those using the westbound cycle lane from Samuel Beckett bridge. Barriers have been placed in the cycle lane making it almost .5m narrower. #Spéirghorm @dublincycling.bsky.social @irishcycle.com

Wider C2CC, anyone…?
adamtranter.bsky.social
The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it.

Some said it would hardly be used.

Now there’s a decent case for widening it further.

Induced demand is real.

Time TBC. They've had delays in material delivery to site and some finishing works are taking longer than expected and are apologising for the delay.

Dublin City Council wants us to ‘be sound’, but safe behaviour starts with safe streets. Instead, we get PR stunts, victim-blaming, and cycle lanes straight out of a sadistic parody.

Read my take on their recent campaigns on my Substack.
You want us to be sound, Dublin City Council? Then build safe streets.
Dublin City Council’s latest campaigns willfully miss the point—safe behaviour starts with safe infrastructure.
