5/ Imagine, HaShem is your boss, he’s actually given you the blueprint (or template) for what needs to happen and he’s pushing you, driving you, to accomplish this important goal. And here is the plan, we’re going to pressure Pharo over and over until he gives you what you want.

4/ OK, it’s been planning season for at least a month and it’ll continue for some months. And then start over. But there has been a lot of planning both professionally and personally as the Gregorian Year turns over.

I don’t know about where you folks are, but this time of year where I work is planning season.

2/ The parsha starts with HaShem hearing the cries of The Israelites. Moses says he doesn’t speak well. We have an accounting of the houses of Israel. The accounting can be taking stock of your resources, who’s who and making sure you have a list to not leave anyone behind.

10/ Most of my adult life I have now been in Israel and I definitely feel the ups and downs, but I am comforted by the community we have here. And I appreciate our friends, neighbors and family that we have who help smooth out some of the rough edges as we navigate this together.

9/ By us it’s been a rollercoaster of a week. From a funeral on Har Hertzel for a 32 year old miluimnik who had a stroke and died on Tuesday to a wedding last night. I had a thought this week. I don’t remember as a kid growing up being exposed to so many of life’s ups and downs.

8/ You could say that the Jewish people here would have to go through a slightly harder time, but the benefits to them in the long run are significant. Paro here is trying to hold back progress. He has his free labor and doesn’t want to them go. We know what happens to his team in the end.

10/ From this we learn (or should learn) that we should always be evaluating where we are and telling the most important people to us how we feel about them. Because we never know when HaShem will give us a 2-min warning (or maybe even less).

9/ A good spot architecture will have the instances constantly pushing their reports or progress off the machine so that when the eventual (at least for people, some spot instances can run for a very long time) 2-min warning will come, they only have to give a final update.

7/ The catch is, however, that when that capacity is required for full-paying customers, AWS will reclaim that capacity and give it to someone at full price. The Spot instance gets a 2 min warning that it’s going to get reclaimed. It’s this 2 min warning that has me thinking about this parsha.

6/ As I read the parsha this week, I could not help but be struck by how similar this is to Spot Instance. For those that don’t know, Spot instances are AWS compute instances (computers) that are extra capacity. They are not currently being used and folks can use them at a big discount.

And then at the very end, Yosef is on his death bed and has everyone promise to bring him to Eretz Yisrael when they leave Egypt. And this is the end of Sefer Beresheit.
