In countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia the citizens benefit from the production and export of oil, most receive monthly payments from the government and the infrastructure also benefit. In America we see none of that, because production is privatized and corporations see the benefits.
Good time to remind people what a journalist is/isn't. A journalist:
- has to do reporting of some kind (data, archival, source-based)
- has to fact-check that reporting
- is held to a higher legal standard than op-eds, essayists, commentators (generally can't share an opinion w/o documentation)
