The correct decision from the Nobel committee. If they had even muttered the words "quantum computing" the number of start-up founders posting about their quantum crypto coin NFTs would break LinkedIn.

So far I have not heard anyone unrelated to this study speak out positively about it, neither in person nor online. The reactions I've seen range from a mere shoulder shrug to unequivocally calling it out as cargo cult science and corporate bullshit (like the one below).

There should be no misunderstanding that this is utter and complete corporate BS. No quantum computers are needed for whatever they did in this work. It's a shame to see IBM depart from their fact-based approach. See Scott Aaronson's blog post: scottaaronson.blog?p=9170

Often a struggle within the strictures of journalistic convention (it is impolite speculation) to convey that quantum computing developments from IBM, etc. are framed, timed, and planned for business/market reasons, so I appreciate Juan for just coming out and say it.

Bit grim seeing the FT treat HSBC’s quantum computing theatre as actual news. Why worry about fake news when the establishment press has already been lobotomised by corporate press releases?
