This is a clear explanation of why a Wealth Tax would be a bad idea. Much better to a) reform council tax so owners of 2nd & 3rd mansions fund services in poorer areas & b) fix CGT to reduce avoidance, tax some unrealised gains annually instead of huge penalty when you sell.
