It’s new roof time! After 90 years things had started to age. I seem to have picked a decent roofing team, helped by the fact they just did next door! Getting reliable and trustworthy trades people is the biggest challenge these days.

It turns out my neighbour's cat is besties with the local fox. They were even playing a bit - the fox is young and clearly wanted to play, the cat older and less keen but not in the slightest bit worried about the fox.

I noticed a tiny bit of rot in a timber post holding the corner of the house up. It turns out my rule of thumb that issues in old houses are *always* worse than they appear was right - hidden was more extensive rot. Good job I got the builders in to sort it out!

On the way back from Scotland in the ID.3. Stopped at Banbury for a top up and pulling a healthy 101kw. 32 chargers here, 31 of which were free. Oh the choices.

I love that Apple added the Lumon Terminal Pro to their website.

The reality is, if you could actually buy one, they’d sell like hot cakes.

Yesterday was fun - I went on a photo walk with #omsystems and they lent me the new OM-3 and 25mm lens (a nifty fifty in 35mm terms). Going into B&W mode and using a fixed lens defn helps with the creativity and harks back to the "olden days"!

I can't quite believe I'm writing this, but the double glazing salesman's quote comes with this image attached. What is there to say?!

OK, nice job Apple on the blue macbook air. Now, give it 64GB and an orange option to make it a must-have. Yes, I'm a die-hard fan of the much lamented tangerine iBook.

Ironic.

Knole House, taken with the #omsystem grainy B&W art filter and super over-exposed. Just playing with techniques, creating art (I think) with a camera.

What’s #omsystem computational photography? Here’s an example from my OM-1ii yesterday - a digital ND filter allowed me to slow the shutter speed and create the lovely blurred water. All hand held, no tripod, no physical filters, less “stuff”, more creative options.

Last night I was at “Mamma Mia! The Party” at the O2 - t’was fun! Today I am doing a guest lecture on AI at the University of London. Geoffrey Hinton is doing next week’s lecture, so I’m in good company! In honour of last night I’ve titled my talk “AGI, The Winner Takes It All”. Fingers crossed 🤞

OK it’s official, I’m declaring the new Mini Cooper Electric *even more* fun than the old one. More hoots than anything twice the price.

I've signed up to keep updated on the Nvidia Digits "home supercomputer". 128GB of memory, petaflop performance, can run 200B models. At $3000 that's an astonishing deal. www.nvidia.com/en-us/projec...

I’ve not stopped at Rugby for a while. A pleasant surprise to find a major expansion of chargers - it’s difficult to count in the mist and dark, but I think it’s 72 charger if you include the Tesla ones as well. Not too shabby a place to charge!

It has to be the original Star Wars. It was the first film that was really hyped and the excitement at the release in our local cinema was like nothing else.

Playing with Apple Intelligence. I expected Image Playground to be a bit too simplistic to be useful, but I actually think it’s *extremely* well executed and has a role as “AI for those that don’t want the tech hassle of AI tools”. Very on-brand for Apple. This is me BTW, hiking in the mountains ⛰️🥾

Jaguar showed both a "Miami Pink" and "London Blue" car. Of course the outrageous idea to paint a car pink has kind of drowned out the blue one, but I like it. Once I've made my billions, it'll be on my shopping list. Only a few days now (I wish!)

This is QwQ, Alibaba's open source "reasoning" model. It's quite smart, but also quite amusing to watch it "think out loud".

Hobby project: A top-tier mac app that provides a UI onto open source LLMs running locally on my mac. Here I am chatting with qwen2.5-coder:32b. AI-assisted coding, full markdown support and code syntax highlighting. Achievement unlocked!

Qwen-2.5-coder, 32b, running locally on my macbook via Ollama. Solving coding problems with AI – zero data going off my machine. It seems pretty decent on at first test.

Doing some LLM testing and forgot to attach an image to my question. This is what I got back... it's a rick-roll. It seems this AI has a sense of humour!

Sunday morning hack, exploring the use of the OpenAI library compatibility with Ollama - just by changing 2 lines of code (url and api_key) I can switch from GPT-4o to a wide variety of open source models running on my laptop, with no further code changes needed. ollama.com/blog/openai-...
