Today, I'm delving into a one-stop generalist guide to building a PC. As much a post for me to be able to link to when I want to provide more in-depth advice for users looking to get into PC building as it is for others to find on the internet...

Today, i go over last years' predictions and look towards what's coming for us in 2026 in my yearly predictions post:

It's that time of year again - it's time to look back at the game system requirements and how they're trending into the future!

Expect a lot of navel gazing and prognostication. :)

The chickens are coming home to roost. I was railing against calling everything "AI" for years but lost that fight. Now we need to go back to specifically calling things what they are, rather than as buzzword to appease stupid investors who can't put their socks on without someone fellating them.
Part of the issue is the very term AI has been widened out broadly and infinitely so now we're playing this language crapshoot, during which people can either be mistaken, use the wrong term, not fully understand the term they're using, or just lie. It's a fucking mess.
ngl, outside of the clip that got popularised by Gene Park, the next paragraph sounds like it's a more algorithmic asset placement tool (referencing trees, paths etc) than genAI

But online, people don't really go on homepages and flick through an assortment of articles and stories. They discover the articles via Google or Reddit or social media. They come in for that article about the game they like, and then leave. And what's more, they don't pay for it, either

Who would have thought my rampant tech consumerism habit could actually be a long-term short investment?

Now, the question is wether I sell my extra RAM kits now, or build a PC around them and sell them once GPU prices also skyrocket... 🤔

I just don't think that having a static platform (like a console) with mid-range hardware in it can command a premium price and shift the number of units required for developers to want to specifically support it and its unique features...

Xbox president Sarah Bond, reconfirmed that Xbox is still working on next gen hardware despite some reports which claim something different.

"We're investing in a next-generation hardware lineup across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories."

Okay, PSA - MS fucked up something related to input for xbox controllers. I thought I had some weird performance problems and was really confused.

The fix listed in this thread works (mostly) but in my particular case the 2023 version was deleted by the OS (1/2)

FPS drop and stutters when using controller, but none on keyboard - Microsoft Q&A

Small preliminary update, here. Installed the 14600K, power limited it to 65W, dropped boost frequency to 5 GHz from 5.3 GHz, core voltage adjusted in increments to -100 mV (seems stable!). Applied the tuned memory profile I had for the RAM - works flawlessly.
Temp is around 70-85 C under heavy load
Aaaaand we're back... Can't believe it! New WHEA issues out of the blue and only for playing Alan Wake 2 (I switched from my desktop to the living room PC to do the testing on the AMD cards on the former).

What's weird with this is that the device spewing the errors is now changed (Intel PEG10)
Another weekend, another update.

Yesterday, i tore down the build, installed a different GPU and all was good! Haven't had time to test OG GPU but thought maybe it was that?! 🤷‍♂️

Nope, after several hours of gaming yesterday, it now crashes every time i start the freaking game!

Okay... After some more troubleshooting - complete system reinstall, etc. - I'm leaning to this CPU being /bad/.

What the hell? I thought Alder Lake chips were effectively safe?!

One last thing I need to do this weekend when I get some time is to switch back in the 12400 I had in there before...

I'm suffering from game paralysis. Too many games to play and enjoy and too little time to do so. I believe that my paralysis is not due to the games themselves but more due to the need to decompress from work and other activities. I can't enjoy a game unless I can devote myself to it...

I remember this happening on various boards for the 12th gen AVX-512... I remember some other things that were removed as well. I was able to change voltage on my 12400 with the initial BIOS but lost that feature (it was changed somewhat)...

This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.

An update on this! I bought a 256GB USB drive from amazon. It's rated to 550 MB/s and has a brushed aluminum shell. It comes with a USB-C adapter and a keyring holder(?)!

Made my mistake 1 day late. Bought a USB-C 3.2 gen 1 128 GB drive for *not super cheap but not expensive money*... it writes at 12 MB/s.... Worst tech mistake I've made in a long time. Quite upset.
May 30th is National Mistake Day! Go for it!
