In 2016, I was frustrated and fearful of Trump's win, and wrote a blog post that connected his undermining the Rule of Law to the decline of the western world order. It was cathartic and prescient.
The West’s Decline: A Desperate Call for Action
In 2012, I named my fledgling blog The State of the Century.  Never have I been more pessimistic about the state of the 21st century.    All empires fall.  One day, the West too will be a faded mem…

This video is an absolute fucking masterpiece. Humorous yet sad. Insightful yet parody.

'I came, I bombed Iran' has got to be one of the cleverest titles I've seen.

It's cute how Canadian politics is concerned with the PM's conflicts of interest in light of what is going on down South.

(It's not a bad thing, just cute).

The American decline meme became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Looming American decline justified the election of a radical presidency, who will hasten the decline.

Russia may accept this 30-day ceasefire, but if they do, they will break it immediately. The trick for Ukraine will be to ensure that Trump sees that Russia broke it.

US aid to Ukraine since Feb 2022 totals $128 billion, mostly older weapons, not cash.

The crypto industry is seeking a bailout of $100 billion from the US Treasury. That is cash.

Remember that when crypto CEOs accuse anyone else of "grifting."

This trade war is the best argument for supply management of Canadian agriculture. Why would we ever trust the Americans for agricultural imports? Food self-sufficiency is essential in times of crisis.

My fellow Canadians. There is only one way we will 'win' a trade war in the short term. We must withstand more pain than our opponent. We must channel what our predecessors did,we must survive. No one can suffer more than us.

If you can, donate to organizations that support Ukraine's war effort. There is no better way to slow the spread of fascism. They need it now. 🇺🇦

While this is horrifying, don't forget that martyrdom is the most potent political force by far.

There was briefly a trendy view amongst geopolitical folks that Trump would recognize Russian weakness and extract concessions, the art of the deal etc...

Instead, Trump recognized a partner in his quest to defeat liberal democracy and suppress freedom.

“no western leaders had ever said that, but he had said it several times. this is already a signal that he understands our position.”

Trump could be the president who finally defeated the biggest geopolitical adversary of the last 80 years, instead this administration seems insistent on becoming the ones who managed to lose the Cold War 35 years after it was won.

Kids, what JD did is called the "strawman argument."
JD Vance - If you believe any of the multiple federal courts that have ruled against you so far are exceeding their statutory or Constitutional authority, your recourse is to appeal. You don’t get to rage-quit the Republic just because you are losing. That’s tyranny.

The Rule of Law is the foundation of the western world's prosperity.
Two lawyers, one Yale educated, one Harvard educated; one the VP, one a senator, suggesting that decisions made by courts aren’t legitimate if they don’t like the outcome. This is dangerous territory.

There was briefly some optimism that Trump could spur a fair ceasefire in the Ukraine war.

To me, it looks like he will take the North Korea approach. Take an ultra aggressive tone with the enemy, but when that fails to get concessions, befried them.

Ukraine will be betrayed.
