The best show I’ve watched this year and it’s not particularly close. Gruesome, inventive, and filled with some truly shocking plot twists, Welcome to Derry is everything you could ask for from an expanded adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most seminal works.

Dust Bunny is a bizarre and visually stunning film that feels like watching someone’s fever dream, full of creativity and whimsy that underscores its often shocking cartoon-esque violence. Howevr, its goofy tone never lets you forget that it’s meant to be a fairy tale.

Not so much a remake as it is a reimagining, this version of Silent Night Deadly Night is surprisingly even-handed between drama and the camp this franchise was always known for. It’s shockingly well made, and even manages to be actually moving at points.

Another fantastic entry in the Knives Out franchise, although this one has a much more serious tone than the prior two. The conversations around religion and faith were something I was not expecting, but they work very well when juxtaposed against the central murder mystery.

A sweet little dramedy that makes a rather grim subject matter digestible, sometimes to its own detriment. The vision of the afterlife this film creates feels banal and very clinical, which makes its emotional narrative feel a lot stronger than a more traditional approach.

While it can sometimes feel a little restrained by context of being a Hollywood product, this is a rather scathing satire of the studio system that gives some insightful critique about the politics of how things in entertainment get made. It's also absolutely hilarious.

A more focused story this time still doesn't quite land when the stakes never feel urgent. Having said that, the pure movie magic of seeing the Jim Henson Company's practical animatronics move never loses its impact, and that carries a lot of the film's shortcomings.

This is the definitive way the movie is meant to be seen, one big four and a half hour epic with Uma Thurman’s single best performance. All the extra footage included here is marvelous, and inhabiting this world again is just such a joy. What else to say?

The mini-expansion that essentially broke the community and led to a series of changes that walked back most of everything that Bungie was trying with Edge of Fate's portal update. To say this was a disaster is an understatement. The content itself? It was okay.

An over-reliance on parody episodes made this season a bit of a slog to get through. These have always been my least favorite types of episodes, so seeing so many of them in a single season really left me indifferent to most of it. Hoping next season is an improvement.

A beautifully human film about the bonds people forge with one another and all the messiness that comes with it. This is such a lovely little movie with such a spirit to it that is consistently moving without ever feeling melodramatic. It’s cozy and so very moving.

For better and for worse, Zootopia 2 feels like the start of a franchise. It’s structured in the vein of a classic buddy cop film like 48 Hours and doesn’t strive for the deeper themes like the first one did. That does feel like the right call, but it comes at the cost of ambition.

Great performances make a melodramatic and at times silly presentation watchable, though the music stings at inappropriate moments did undercut the seriousness of the story. This is pop history at its most reductive, but it is still enjoyable for the most part.

A fantastic follow up to one of the most hilarious action films of the last few years, this one manages to be more over the top and somehow much more emotional. It walks a fine line between live action cartoon and melancholy that shouldn’t work as well as it does.

Incredible animation, a more focused story, and much more well-rounded characters make this a solid improvement and escalation from season 1. It's clear there's still way more story to tell, and if the show keeps improving like this, it's going to be something to see.

While not a fun watch, Jennifer Lawerence gives an absolute powerhouse performance in a film both thematically rich and incredibly interesting. Tackling complicated topics like postpartum depression and mental health crises is a tightrope, but I think this mostly succeeds at it.

Lacking the unique style found in director Edgar Wright's other films, this is a surprisingly predictable studio action film elevated a touch higher by Glen Powell's charismatic performance and some timely political messaging that lands shockingly well.

This film will forever be overshadowed by Sweeney's disastrous interview, but as a film, Christy is a solid biopic about an extraordinary, complicated life of a boxer that's bolstered with excellent performances by Sweeney and Foster in the two leading roles.

While it can be a little corny at times, everything comes together beautifully with a third act and ending that feel earned and extremely satisfying in their brutality. Badlands is a blast of a movie, delivering exactly what you expect from a movie starring the yautja.

Gripping all the way through, while Bugonia lacks the audacity of Poor Things, its rather grim story offers a unique perspective on people that’s full of empathy, even if its main cast of characters don’t deserve it. It’s a very human, very interesting little dark comedy worth seeing.

A rock solid feature debut for director Chris Stuckmann utilizing multiple formats to tell an intriguing mystery with a haunting conclusion. Some of the dialogue is a little too unnatural and expository at times, but taken as a whole, this was a really well put together film.

While its messaging isn’t as sharp as it could be, this is a really cute movie elevated entirely on Keanu Reeves’ performance as Gabriel. The film’s Prince and Pauper plot is as predictable as you think it is, but the humor regarding modern life lands spot on.

The amount of rage I felt watching this documentary can't be overstated. This is a terribly effective retelling of events leading up to a terrible tragedy caused by one unhinged individual and laws allowing her to nearly get away with it. Powerful and infuriating.
