I wonder if the lack of funding for studies is because companies figure they'll see the use cases go down in 20 years, with the chickenpox vaccine being on the childhood schedule 1995. Limiting profits over time.
(Not agreeing obviously, just an explanation.)

The protection from the vaccine is lifelong. Hopefully, the babies born make it beyond childhood, however, fewer vaccines will ensure many children won't.
