Congrats dear Lucas Ribeiro! Lucas has taken up a prestigious position in his home country of Brazil. Alongside his work at DZNE Bonn, the immunologist and bioinformatician is now a Visiting Research Fellow at his alma mater, the Federal University of Minas Gerais.

Congrats! Frank Bradke received the “Drs. Ayeez and Shelena Lalji & Family ALS Endowed Award for Innovative Healing”, funded with US$ 40k. The award honors his research on the growth of nerve connections. It's presented by the Sean M. Healey and AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital.

🥂 Dr. Maria Eugenia Bernis received the 2025 GNPI Science Prize! She showed caffeine can help protect newborn brains after oxygen deprivation. In a preclinical model, just 3 days of caffeine treatment significantly reduced brain damage and inflammation by modulating the AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway.

👏 Congrats! A DZNE research team around Prof. Martin Reuter has been awarded around one million US dollars, by NIH, for the development of an innovative, AI-based method to measure the “choroid plexus” three-dimensionally in human brain scans.

DZNE's Markus Zweckstetter has been awarded around 2.5 million euros. His studies will focus on so-called kinases, a special class of enzymes. From the 5 year project, he and his team aim to gain insights for the development of new drugs against Alzheimer's.
