I love her! And it's nice to have some good news on the timeline.

If you've never listened to the podcast "Dolly Parton's America," do it. It's all great, but the 4th episode about Dolly and Jad Abumrad's rather is just beautiful.

BREAKING

In a new video, Dolly Parton, the Queen of America, says she’s going to be ok.

Ah, interesting. I wonder who was originally cast.

I feel like Kelly Bishop was so underutilized in this film. I mean, long before she was Emily Gilmore, she won a Tony for A Chorus Line! She can dance! #HATM

I almost forgot and am thus late getting started, but I'm here.

1) I'm too old to remember much of anything from when I first saw it, but it was when it first came out.
2) Just water, but for dinner (after the movie, b/c I'm west coast), I'm having halibut in a miso broth with spinach.

There’s a house in my part of town with a flagpole flying US and German flags. They’ve turned their front yard into a kind of Schrebergarten – and are out there all the time. Makes me chuckle every time I drive by.

Just saw the news (or at least what I think you are talking about). That sucks!

If you are at the #aaslh2025 meeting & going to Friday morning’s poster session, be sure to stop at The Marymount Tradition poster to learn about LMU students’ oral history & digital history project about the history of Marymount College & its merger w/ Loyola University. No Marymount, No Merger!

Clearly, planetary scientists need to be protected from the likes of us. 🤣

History majors have lower unemployment than computer science majors.

Folks with humanities graduate degrees are more sought after by corporate recruiters than those with MBAs.

She had to tolerate me talking about my fascination with the universe & love of the Mars rovers' names (Sojourner, Curiosity, Perseverance!) – and kindly gave me NASA badge for my fangirling. If you want more Mars after reading the article, try Sarah Stewart Johnson's "The Sirens of Mars." 2/2

I sat next to one of the co-authors of this paper (Morgan Cable from JPL) on a flight from Frankfurt to LA this summer. And while I normally try to avoid plane conversations, we had a great chat about her work at JPL, including this article: www.nature.com/articles/s41... Exciting to see it out! 1/2

SCOTUS now ~officially~ allows the Trump admin and the Court to overrule centuries old cases on the shadow docket.

Apparently "irreparable harm" entitling the gov't to a stay now means "The Trump admin can't preemptively by fiat overrule cases it & we don't like."

Chief Justice Roberts has issued an “administrative” stay allowing President Trump to remove the last Democratic member of Federal Trade Commission while the full Court decides whether to freeze lower-court rulings that had held that her firing was unlawful:

BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California.

Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city.

This is not a joke. This is not normal.

Donald Trump isn't a strongman, he's a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.

In the coming days, we expect to see what's playing out in LA and DC happen in Chicago.

These efforts are not about fighting crime or making communities safer.

This is about Donald Trump testing his power and producing political drama to cover up his own corruption.
Governor Pritzker speaks behind the podium.

Pritzker: Any rational person who has spent even the most minimal amount of time studying human history has to ask themselves one important question: Once they get the citizens of this nation comfortable with the current atrocities committed under the color of law, what comes next

Illinois Gov. Pritzker ahead of Trump National Guard deployment:

"To Chicagoans... Look out for your communities and your neighbours. Know your rights. Film things that you see happening... Authoritarians thrive on your silence. Be loud for America."
