OTD, the season 1 finale of #StarTrekLowerDecks, "No Small Parts," which made Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis the first Star Trek regular cast members to play the same roles in five different series.

This is also a really clever piece of music.

Those who've seen the film will remember Septimus is the seventh brother of eight siblings.

So Eshkeri leans into that, giving Septimus' theme a 7/8 time signature.

If there's one piece of music from Stardust that's stuck with me, it's "Septimus" (and with apologies to "Shooting Star" and "The Star Shines").

Eshkeri is such an underrated composer, but I'd expect no less from someone who apprenticed with Edward Shearmur and the late Michael Kamen.

We get this AND a new episode of Khan within a 48 hour period. I call that a VERY good week so far. 😁

So, just in case I can't re-access it before the loan expires, at least I grabbed the audiobook.

A new White House memo says that furloughed federal workers aren't entitled to back pay.

This is clearly against the law, which guarantees furloughed federal employees back pay for the duration of a government shutdown.

The introduction of Delmonda and the Elborians (I assume that's the correct spelling, LOL) was a great twist.

I didn't see that coming. It COMPLETELY changes the trajectory of the remaining road to TWOK and raises the thrill of seeing how exactly we get there.

Next month will be quite a ride.

But as in previous weeks, it's again interesting to see how the podcast obviously hews closely to some of Cox's elements I can recall (e.g. the planetary ecological fallout and response) while forging its own path.

And the latter leads us to this week's big reveal.

Something I forgot to mention in previous weeks is that I deliberately didn't reread Greg Cox's To Reign in Hell before "Paradise".

I haven't reread Cox's Khan Trilogy in about a decade; I wanted to go into this podcast with a fresh perspective (though I'll go back afterwards when this is done).
