It's monarchs-on-the-meadow-blazing-stars season already?

I am so far really happy with the Roy Diblik and Piet Oudolf inspired garden I planted last year. I've been doing small edits, but this has largely been effort free this season so far. #bloomscrolling #plantcombinations

It's bleeding heart o'clock. My dad planted one of these by his front door while he was successfully recovering from major heart surgery, so now I have one by my front door to memorialize him. #bloomscrolling

An improbable cat stack.

Marceline has managed to ensconce herself in extreme proximity to Thursday Next. This is a miracle of a full year of couples counseling. These two were once sworn enemies. (There was blood.)

It has come to my attention that not enough people are following @jacobsimonsays.bsky.social 's daily wins. Even in this current environment of uncountable things going wrong, some things are also going right. He's on my don't-dare-miss list here. He posts these in video format on other platforms.
Here's what's going right:

My plan to regrade the yard so that water will naturally pool near the birch trees we planted is working out swimmingly so far. This is just from snow melt. However I'm regretting planting Carex pensylvanica along the bottom of the regrade. I think they're probably drowning. #plantcommunities

Really looking forward to seeing what this plant community does this year. It's heavily inspired by Roy Diblik's designs.

Whenever I read that a tree is an understory tree or a "woodland edge" tree, I picture this #cornuskousa ensconced in its massive blue spruce tree neighbor.

Spotted on a walk in a residential neighborhood of Seattle some years ago.

A whack of invasives never looked so good.

Spotted in Seattle, where those creeping Campanulas are not yet listed as noxious.

@ariellaelm.bsky.social posts 3 Wins and Dems Doing the Work threads daily. She's also available on Substack. Despair is tempting but ultimately extremely counterproductive. She is helping us to keep hope alive and stay in the fight. I recommend putting her on your priority reading lists.
DAILY DEMS DOING THE WORK, MAKING NOISE, AND FIGHTING BACK Day 18

Today is going to be a little bit different. I’m going to tell you about three actions that you probably haven’t heard of that, together, suggest a broad shift in how Democrats are operating.

Pictured here is an experimental bed I planted up shortly after moving back to Minneapolis, just to see what plants do here. I had heard that asters and goldenrods mingle well together, and so I threw some into the mix. They did not disappoint.

I hereby proclamize that here'n after, Mpls neighborhoods will be known as SoBro or NoBro, depending on how they relate to our great street of Broadway. I will be forwarding this to Google to be sure our maps accurately reflect this change. And to protect the homefront, I will be annexing Pryes.
An important announcement from the Governor of Illinois.

100% agreed. The best way to get to the shanties is by lake.

I wouldn't have guessed it would have been such a straight line from joining Bluesky to blending in IRL with a lot of fun and inspiring locals, sharing generous helpings of catharsis, but here we are. Thanks @mplsnightmayor.bsky.social for 🪵🪓

I highly recommend following Jacob Simon for your stupid mental health. He's not here yet, it seems, but he's on YouTube and Substack. He posts good news daily, and he periodically also posts roundups like this one.

Some week-old somewhat-relieving news that I had missed: One of our billionaires, together with some other unspecified "US climate funders", will fill the international climate funding gap created by US withdrawal from the Paris accord.
Michael Bloomberg steps in to help fund UN climate body after Trump withdrawal
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's philanthropy arm said on Thursday it will provide funding to help cover the U.S. contribution to the U.N. climate body's budget, filling a gap left by President Donald Trump.

Another #plantcombination I saw in Seattle once, in mid April. Looks to be a lot of scilla with the odd yellow tulip and weedy fern thriving beneath a gnarly old Japanese Maple tree. Scilla is invasive in MN, but I'm giving blue-eyed grass a go in my own garden for this kind of look. #bloomscrolling

Just a #plantcombination I saw in Seattle once in mid June: a sprawling golden Spirea bush surprisingly elevated by a shock of nigella damascena just doing whatever it wants right there in front of it.

Wedge LIVE! interviewed Doron, Monica, & Peter wrt to Tuesday's SD60 special election. From these 3 interviews, I'm seeing Peter stand out on several issues, but he got my heart by volunteering unprompted the issue of the state owning roads in Mpls neighborhoods and running them like highways...
