I guess you could call it an "informed dice roller".

This is largely true, AI as we know it relies on input to produce an output. It can't independently create anything, even if prompted, just shuffle pieces around in such a way that it appears like something new. It's excellent at pattern recognition, sorting, and categorization, but not much else.

Not as we're led to think it does, no. Machine learning has been a thing for a long time, only now we have machines that have enough pattern recognition (and advertising in the form of studies about AIs developing anxiety) that it's easier to pass off as intelligent when it's really not.

I guess at least then there'll be a lot less CSAM...

Yeah, that would be genAI, and that is a problem, among others. However, the subsidization is the main issue IMO; There's no profit in it. Once the other shoe drops and it's time to collect, it'll probably be unaffordable for most, yet it's becoming a core part of society like gig economy apps did.

It's a little sad, if poetic, that where E3 started out as a show for investors and moved to catering to consumers, CES started out as a show for consumers, and moved to catering to investors.

I would legitimately, enthusiastically, play this game.

I mean, I understand why weapons need to exist as things are right now, but Anduril is uh. Going the extra mile.

Seriously though I've been living under a rock, all of this goes right into the Kola superdeep borehole, Palmer Luckey included.

Egg will be on all our faces when the autonomous kill-bots get loose and the special edition drone-metal game boys are the only way to control them.

Yeah... The thing about it is for simpler hardware, it’s legitimately possible to reimplement via FPGA. For more complex hardware like the SNES, it’s effectively emulator code.

That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, you can make an emulator that is 100% accurate, it’s just, call it what it is.

Ooh so it’s got a Super Game Boy v1 speed drift. Less off than the SGB but probably not speedrun friendly as is.

So for the fifth outing in Usea, it’s refreshing to see Erusea isn’t the antagonist this time. Also, it seems it might just be an intra-continental conflict this time rather than a fully continental one, but details seem scarce aside from the factions mentioned so far.

If I’m counting right, it’s been 4 so far (if you count 1, 2, and 3D/Assault Horizon Legacy to be retellings of the same story). Erusea wound up conquering most of the continent on their own twice, and an Erusean megacorp later becomes one of just two continental (world?) powers.

I’m always happy to see more coming out about 3DO Doom, especially after the dev, Rebecca Heineman, passed away. Since learning about it long ago, it’s always fascinated me, and I seriously hope more of the plans and assets keep coming to light. Thanks for keeping it in the spotlight!

I’m so sorry. I can’t begin to imagine how this must feel. We didn’t know each other, but you inspired me so long ago. I wish you and your loved ones the best in the coming days, and I hope you can feel some comfort from the support you’ve received.

You have left your mark, and you will be missed.
