The law in most states are clear, E-bikes have a max power out of 750watts. Type 1 maxes peddle assist at 20mph and type 3 at 28. Throttles max at 20 mph. Anything over this is registered, requires insurance, a helmet and can only be operated on roads. Don’t punish legit E-bike owners.

Another observation, several of my buyers are coming off knee and hip surgeries where the DR wants PT to increase range of motion. E-bikes make that possible without excess resistance. Pedal assist allows for a consistent motion without the physical stain.

Unfortunately few. Another key market for low cost e-bikes are low income riders. I get a lot of internet e-bikes in for work from people that can’t afford cars but rely on bikes for mobility. In communities without bike share these cheap bikes replace car trips. But they aren’t repairable.

I sell e-bikes on the MD Eastern Shore which is
Popular for empty-nesters and retirees. Almost all of my buyers are Gen-x and Boomers. E-bikes making riding accessible and lessen the force that pedal bikes require on joints. They are riding more often and longer with many trips to store.
