Fun fact I love to share: Sally Hemings’ mother, enslaved by Jefferson’s father in law, attended Jefferson as he wrote the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.
While we’re on founding fathers, I think people actually *underrate* the Gothic horror of Jefferson and Sally Hemings. She was his slave, she was also his dead wife’s much younger half sister as a result of Jefferson’s father in law raping *his* slave.
