The base is a mortise and tenon construction and likely grossly overbuilt for a coffee table. The interior of the drawers are lined with resawn grain matched thin maple. The hatches can throw a remote across the room. It’s very extra. But what a learning experience. Glad I stretched myself.

It has two drawers, two shelves, and two hatches. The base is soft maple. The top is birch veneered particle core edge banded with birch iron on.

Finally brought home my case piece from college. It took a few dings. Mistakes happened in the process. But I’m pretty happy with all the fancy things I made happen on this coffee table.

Broke a kitchen mallet this week. Had some ash scrap, a chisel, saw, and some time. Now I have a replacement that I’m sure will crack on that darker vein. Maybe that’s why the wood was in the bin to begin with? I’ll just glue it back together when that happens. Finished with bees wax. #woodworking

I had some spare time last week while I wait on hardware so I knocked out this staked stool prototype from my classmates’ off cuts. Poplar with cherry wedges. Octagonal legs. Not so sure about the cross member for connection. Maybe I just do two non lapped diagonals next time. #woodworking

I have built my first workbench. It’s meant to be quick and temporary, but also heavy, and able to accommodate dog hole hardware for work holding. The pieces are lap jointed but covered with angle iron because they will absolutely loosen and try to warp. It’s made for now, not forever.

Some folks here may know that I’ve gone back to school. Here’s my first larger project: my first ever dovetail carcass. I’ve never done hand cut dovetails before and these are some pretty rough ones. But what a great experience. My confidence and capacity on hand tools is way higher now.
