That’s another thing. Let’s say escape is actually possible and someone wakes up in their body outside the Digital Circus. I doubt the people running it would simply let their captives walk out of the building where they could hold them accountable.

What I still don’t understand is the people who built the Digital Circus. Why would they bother leaving an exit for their captives at all?

What if some of the first batch of captives were a mixture of children and adults? Maybe Caine truly wanted those children to be comforted and it was the abstractions that could have traumatized him.
