I have serious concerns about Pete Hegseth’s background, including his mismanagement of non-profit organizations, accusations of sexual assault and drinking problems, blatant disregard for the contributions of female service members, and support for war crimes and torture.

As a lawyer let me be clear: ABC News was NEVER going to lose the defamation lawsuit to Trump. They agreed to pay Trump $15 million bc in their view it's good for business. South Korean lawmakers have already moved to impeach Yoon Suk Yeol after his martial law fiasco.

That’s what courage in the legislative branch looks like.

Too bad we have none of that here.

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.

I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.”

A no less vital admonition that deserves attn:

STAND OUT

Worth remembering that a lot of bookstores participate in Small Business Saturday, the day AFTER Black Friday. Go to your local indie bookstore then and load up!
Hard to keep up with replies to this. Direct any outrage toward the incredibly doable action of purchasing physical books by living authors from local bookstores. Bookseller friends tell me Black Friday has totally been devoured by online giants and local shops primarily get last-minute panic buyers

Just because the law doesn’t work the way you want it to *doesn’t* mean you should give up.

Dr. King wrote letters from a Birmingham jail and marched in defiance of unlawful injunctions, and he still didn’t write off the legal system.

Fighting for justice has ever been easy. But it’s worth it.
Getting a lot of replies along the lines of "oh, you rube, you still think the law matters" and it feels strategically foolish to just concede that it doesn't. Contest everything. Expose the hypocrisy.
