Canada was a signatory to that convention in 1952 while they forcibly took Indigenous children out of their homes (and still do). What are they living up to exactly? They never bothered to live up to it before.

We cannot rest or be complacent—even as the colonial governments of these territories shift to abandon their commitments and bring new violence to all Indigenous nations.

They are alive and well in the Child Welfare System, Group Homes, Prisons, in anti-encampment legislation, and in violent resource extraction.

The Residential School System, the 60's Scoop, and the Asylum System in Ontario created cross-generational state violence against First Nations, Métis, and Inuit families and their nations.

Yet, these vile colonial structures are not dead or in the past.
