CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.

ISILDUR: So I should keep it? Elrond says I shouldn't

CHATGPT: The ring is precious. Sometimes friends don't have your best interests at heart.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

i feel like this narrative of like "things settle down in mid life, you really know who you are, you're more confident, things bother you less etc etc" is just generational propaganda by the generation that controls the media

Pam Bondi admits she spoke to Apple to "get the ICEBlock app taken down." Sounds an awful lot like coercion to suppress disfavored speech to me. A clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

Bondi claims that the ICEBlock app was "criminal in that people were posting where ICE officers lived"

knew i was going to have to disable QTs on this one

i don't mind when people have their unhinged takes about this but some of the time when middle aged people are complaining about these trends they just sound straight up creepy

Anglo "live & let live" integration is demonstrably more successful than French style "aggressive assimilationism" at producing integrated societies, and has been proven to do so in multiple Anglo jurisdictions in (literally) multiple hemispheres! But these people want the thing with worse outcomes!

No, it's not. It's all a lie. The blunt truth is across the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

i think that every expert in any field of social science should have some working knowledge of insights from the other fields for the same reason that you should put some structure in the error term in a quantitative model ie that's part of what determines what you make of "your" signal
economeager.bsky.social
i think part of the reason is that if you are not intending to be a total bully/tyrant, then being not nice is actually vulnerable, because it makes you a more legitimate target for not-nice treatment yourself (+ you're not planning to crush all dissent etc, you want to get along with ppl)
