1999

A former mess hall in a derelict military base.

I was a new recruit.

Not in the military, but Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit.

We rehearsed on an old fort donated to us by the city.

This run down building was a dream come true.

I wanted to be a cartoonist!

As an introvert, I dreamed of crafting funny little stories with images in the wee hours of the morning all alone.

Have I been having an identity crisis?
Or am I just a dude with many facets?

So, I’ve spent several thousand dollars on online courses and coaching and a weird things has happened…

One of my favorite parts about being a Mosaic Youth Theatre alum is that no matter where I go …

Whenever I tell people I traveled the country as a game show host there’s always this …

… “Wait, you did what?”

Nepotism is normal for the success

Reputation > Resume
Great careers are built on great relationships

Your biggest problem isn’t lack of opportunity
Your biggest problem is obscurity

Auditions are for strangers
Roles are for the Relationships

Every person has a pain that you can alleviate with the promise of your superpower

Don’t wait to audition to demonstrate your skill.

That’s what social media is for

Post that monologue
Publish that short film you made at school
Work in public

When what you do as an actor is more than they pay for

The more the pay for you as an actor

Over deliver
Show up off-book early
Promote the show
Be kind on set

I help:

Actors get off-book
Producers with great scripts
Rebrand for fun and flair
Act when the project is right for me
December 15, 2025 at 9:56 PM
I really want to write scripts.
Today, in my heart.
Who needs help with writing a script?

People will tell you what they want from you.

After a while a pattern will arise.

You will see what people want from YOU.

That’s your type.
That is your niche!

When you don’t know what to do,
A system will save you.

Create a means to produce a meaningful input every day and you can’t lose.

One client
One project
One outcome

Focus on getting them the victory they want.

Constraints in writing can lead to humor.
Constraints in business can lead to humongous problems.

Long after the fanfare John Fikany was still connecting with his audience from the annual Detroit Economic Club mentorship kickoff.

A young person at the event wanted to speak to John.

Unfortunately, the bus would not wait ...

So what did these two amazing guys do?

Speaker Secrets
How to sound smart even when you are lost.

Memorize a bunch of poignant quotes and have them at the ready whenever you get lost on stage. At the very least you'll show you are well-read.

Fill your brains with the words of smart people. Say said words. Sound smart.

Write down beautiful things.
Memorize them.
Speak them.
Win hearts.

Some of my favorite speakers are preachers.

Why?

They memorize amazing words of wisdom and freely share them with their audience.

Here's a secret:
You can do that too.

Audition monologues you won't find in acting school 🎭
November 19, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Stop Googling monologues.

Imma 'bout to show to show you an "illegal" technique professional actors use to create memorable audition pieces.

Casting directors will dig it.

One of the biggest tragedies is to stop honing your skills.
I think the "AI Revolution" has proven that you can rely on what you learned in school to survive in modern life.
You have to keep working on your craft.

How do actors stay good at acting?
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I'm not a guru.
I'm not even the best acting coach.
I like to think of myself as the reverse Terminator.
Sent from the future to help my former self.
If you are or know a young actor ...

It's wild seeing people's profile pictures and then meeting them in person.

In acting, your audition monologue is like your advertisement for your "wares."

Are you selling what you used to be?

What you ARE might be much more interesting.

Auditions, like job interviews, have hidden rules.

One person's short-cut is another person's nightmare.

When I was coming up as an actor (jeesh I sound old) ...

We'd look for monologues in anthologies
