Thanks Lars - I expect there are quite a few inhomogeneities in the wind speed & gust record over the decades due to instrumentation changes; we briefly mention a few (e.g. Dines V cups) in Graham, E. and Smart, D., 2021. 'Hurricane' Debbie–60 years on: a fresh analysis. Weather (00431656), 76(9).

And Tiree also recorded 90kn on 16.9.1961 during #Debbie

Spot on Lars! #Tiree 102kn on 15.01.1968 during the #GreatGlasgowStorm (Tranter, P. and Galvin, J., 2018. Fifty years on from the Great Glasgow Storm… What have we learned from powerful storms since then?. Weather, 73(2), pp.39-45) .

Yes, I think you're right, Lars! Let me double check...

Marco, I wonder if Tiree recorded even higher than 83kn (96mph) after the power went near 6pm?

#StormAmy boomerang loop of #Meteosat12 #MTG water vapour 6.2micron channel imagery over 36h (3-4 Oct 2025) shows extent & expansion of deep dry air intrusion, before being spun majestically around the record-breaking deep cyclone centre #VorticityInAction

At this stage, it's probably worth mentioning the #rain totals too! #StormAmy (thank you @scottishepa.bsky.social) . Already topping 100mm/36h at many stns in the west, after a drookit week www2.sepa.org.uk/rainfall/

South Uist 03023 SYNOP had a pressure tendency (drop) of -19.7hPa (mb) in the 3h to 16z today #StormAmy - exceptional but not unprecedented... I wonder if any pressure kicks can exceed 20hPa/3h (which would be remarkable) and akin to #Debbie 16.9.61
eddywx.bsky.social
Behaving much like the "eye" of a hurricane... don't be deceived!

20z (21h) SYNOPs appear missing from #Tiree #Altnaharra #TullochBridge #BealachNaBa Widespread power outages across Highlands & Islands from #StormAmy on #SSE power map powertrack.ssen.co.uk/powertrack

Stornoway Airp 03026 a dead calm! (as centre of #Amy passes overhead ~21h)
eddywx.bsky.social
yet to reach Aultbea 03034; meanwhile Bealach na Ba 03039 91kn (105mph), Aonach Mor (03041 ) 98kn (113mph), Cairnwell 101kn (116mph) in hour up to 8pm

Aargh.. Tiree appears to have lost power for 20h (19z) SYNOP report.. (just when you want it most)

What a beauty... a terrible monstrous beauty... #StormAmy #Humberto from METEOSAT-12/ MTG water vapour 6.2micron channel: The dark area is dry, descending air. Where it forms the scorpion's tail in the final frame (dare I say "sting") is location of some of the most violent winds
eddywx.bsky.social
just coming into Skye now, yet to pickup in Uists, Bealach na Ba reporting 90kn (104mph)
eddywx.bsky.social
Ooof... Tiree 83kn (95mph) in hour 17-18z
eddywx.bsky.social
Malin Head 03980 still gusting 80kn (92mph) in 17z SYNOPs, Tiree now up to 67kn

Magilligan No 2 03907 gusting 80kn, 92mph
