Speaking of delulu, last year I wrote to one of my comics artist idols, @ralfkoenig.bsky.social and asked if I could visit him in Köln, Germany. He said yes and we spent 3 days hanging out, sketching each other, looking at art. Here's the queer comics legend replying to emails. Make things happen!

Next Tuesday we draw curator and model Todd! typ0.bigcartel.com/product/east...
I love running these sessions, there's so much queer joy and solidarity and a sense of a challenge voluntarily faced together. Plus a gorgeous diversity of art!

Self publishing is great, you get personal contact with your readers, you get paid what you choose, and you don't answer to anyone!! It's still work, but for yourself. I think a lot of people fear the idea of independence. But artists have to be courageous and take risks. And maintain side hustles.

I self-published via @comicprintinguk.bsky.social, who prints all my work and keeps a copy for himself much like a serial killer keeps a trophy from each of his victims.... Fascinating chap. What would British comics be without him??? I shudder to think. Idk if anyone else would print H&H.

And then one day the end was in sight... I was closer to the finish line than I was the start. It took 16 months to make this graphic novel, working almost exclusively on it from 2021-2022, including writing, editing, pencilling, inking with a brush pen and ink wash, scanning and typesetting.

The work seemed to keep growing, a mountain of small and large tasks requiring research, trial and error, technical precision, creative energy, consideration, time. It would simply never be finished, it was too much work for even a huge team of people to accomplish in a lifetime! Page count: 71...

I wanted to make a greyscale comic, because I hadn't yet. Colouring doesn't come naturally to me. It's the one step of comics I would happily hand over to someone else. But the mood of this story suited a grisaille pallette.

I felt vol 1 just scratched the surface, and there was a mood I wanted to explore deeper, the hungry pursuit of satisfaction, a craving to transgress beyond acceptable limits. In my 20s getting messy with friends, I used to get this feeling like "this isn't it". Isn't what? Idk... But it's not this.

Let me tell you, that makes everything longer! You can't gloss over events with an aside, you have to demonstrate each moment in images and speech. But that was the challenge I set myself. I also wanted to explore group dynamics more, trouble brewing amongst characters with differing motivations.

The 3rd printing of Horny & High vol 2 is here! It's for adults so if you're not one of those, stop reading.
After vol 1 was out, I got started on a longer story. I envisioned maybe 50 pages. But I decided this story would only be told thru dialogue, no narrator framing device. tinyurl.com/5amy354b
