Martin was also the first person to volunteer to speak at the EDIG 2020 Conference and delivered a powerful talk that challenged assumptions and broadened our understanding. He volunteered with EDIG for a long time.

🌎 One of these exceptional advocates is Martin Griffin (CEng, FICE, FIMMM, CGeol, EurGeol, FIEDP). His openness and leadership are helping to break down barriers and increase awareness of the experiences of neurodiverse people.

But meaningful representation relies on individuals who are willing to share their experiences. This can feel vulnerable. And yet, those who step forward create pathways of understanding that help others feel safe, seen, and supported. They shoulder extra pressures, but their impact is profound.

Survey – EDIG

The results were incredible and showed not only the intersectionality and complexity of experiences, but also the prevalence of unconscious bias across geoscience. The survey also highlighted the challenges of EDI-related initiatives when they are ineffective or when people are unaware of them.

The EDIG Survey was originally launched to help us organise the 2020 Conference. But it led to the collection of an overwhelming amount of experiences, viewpoints, and impacts. Overall, we heard from 708 people from 58 countries, across a wide range of sectors within geoscience.

As the DEI co-chair, I hope you will apply to join the DEI committee. We are a friendly active bunch working on making Geochemistry more accessible and inclusive. This includes during @goldschmidt-confer.bsky.social, online (www.eagblog.org/categories/d...), and with respect to the awards.

💻 🌍 In 2022, we decided to run another event. This event was spread out over multiple time zones and was inspired by the stories we heard and the lessons we learned over the previous 2 years. It focused on 3 sessions;
➡️ Data collection in EDI,
➡️ Awareness of EDI Challenges, and
➡️ Action.

💻 🌍 In 2020, we hosted our first event: a fully virtual, and free 2-day conference! This was at a time when most people had to work at home, online. There were a lot of online discussions on EDI and challenges in the geoscience community.
