Tomorrow I’m heading to Musselburgh Twitching for a rare bird that you will never expect to see there. I have seen on social media birders have been successful seeing it . It is a bird I have never seen before so I’m very excited about this one. The clue is the silhouette on what the bird is.

Autumnal walk in Calderwood Join us for a slow paced walk in Calderwood, Mid Calder on Sunday 12 October 2025. This is an opportunity to spend some time in nature, exploring this ancient woodland and enjoying the beautiful autumnal colours. We will meet at the Mid Calder entrance to Almondell and Calderwood Country park, just off the car park. We will then follow the path towards Calderwood and explore the circular, yellow waymarked hazel Trail.

Had a enjoyable afternoon visiting Argyll Beaver Centre. There were lots of feeders around that were enjoyed by Blue, Great & Coal Tits followed by Robin, Chaffinch & Nuthatch. The biggest surprise was seeing a Red Squirrel. Visit argyllbeavercentre.co.uk

On this day 14 years ago I first saw a Great Spotted Woodpecker at my feeder. It was a male but mainly it was a female that was a regular to the garden for many years. She loved going to the coconut feeder it was her favourite. Sadly in April 2021 was her last appearance.

Had a good afternoon at The @scottishbirding.bsky.social HQ’s 20th Anniversary. There were crafts for the kids & a choir to listen to. Will recommend a stop off here if you are ever visiting Aberlady.
