Alcohol was banned at football matches to curb disorder. Emergency services see a rise in demand and pressure after big matches. Instead of expanding availability of alcohol at matches, consideration should be given to restricting its availability at all sports events.

Good news that the chancellor resisted pressure from the alcohol industry to freeze duty and instead it will rise with inflation, as it’s supposed to. Here’s hoping next time a duty escalator is introduced as this is actually effective at reducing deaths AND raising tax for the exchequer.
