Both Pretti and Good would be alive if Tim Walz and Jacob Frey would cooperate with the federal government like most other states do. Americans are not dying in other states. Minnesota is a major sanctuary state and cooperating with the federal government would get ICE and border patrol out of the state. Like the progressive left and Hamas, however, there is a well-coordinated PR campaign between the Left and press to make the federal government the bad guy. Frankly, the federal government has walked into the PR battle and is doing its very best to lose it. More dead Americans does not help. This sort of feels to me as if the Hamas PR team is running ops for Minnesota and that PR team was quite effective at radicalizing people against Israel, now against deportations. They structured this situation to cause chaos and shootings, but, again, the Trump team is walking right into it.

Based on interviews with more than 45 detained immigrants, the groups wrote that "Officers have beaten detainees and used threats of violence, criminal charges and imprisonment in attempts to coerce people held at Fort Bliss to leave the United States and cross the border into Mexico, even if they are not subject to a removal order to Mexico."

With internet propaganda platforms, micro and otherwise, eating their lunch and siphoning their audiences, they were left desperately hanging onto two things: 1.) the portion of the geriatric viewers who had stubbornly stuck with Network News but hadn't converted (as many had) to a diet of Fox News bullshit; and 2.) access. Keeping the first demanded they act like Trump's insanity was normal — because after decades of conservatives working the refs, any pointing out MAGA madness, however justified, would be read as liberal bias aka Fake News. And keeping the second also required they normalize Trump. You weren't going to keep your seat in the press pool if you said things were not normal! (And in many cases they didn't anyway.) The result is the worst of both worlds — a kept press that can't be trusted by anybody. A word about the comments section in yesterday's newsletter. Apparently more than a few of you are angry at me for having questions and concerns about the way ICE is doing its job. I have long believed, and said here, in deportation. I broadly support what Trump is doing, and I certainly despise the way these activists are going about their protests. But some of you have decided that I'm now some sort of liberal because I raised concerns about SOME of ICE's tactics — even though I cited polls showing that a majority of Americans are against what ICE is doing. Gang, come on. This is the kind of purity spiral we associate with the woke Left. If we want the goal of deporting as many illegals as possible to succeed, then we cannot afford to lose the public on this — and we are losing the public. We have to be able to self-criticize, and self-correct, to reach our goals. If we can't, we are going to find our heads handed to us in the next election — just as the Democratic Party's enslavement to the demands of the puritanical activist Left helped cost them the last election.

In a last-ditch effort of sorts, Rauch, Haidt and Strossen organized a call with Carvalho. The discussion didn't inspire confidence in the group, said someone with knowledge of the call who was granted anonymity to speak candidly. Carvalho basically told them that UATX was a right-wing project, and that they'd known this when they signed up. But that wasn't what any of them had believed.
