We need a better phrase than 'rats abandoning a sinking ship' because we hold the humble rat in such low regard.
Which is a shame, bc the above simile does encapsulate the concept that 'even those who have nowhere else to go are leaving'.
But the comparison to rats is v unfair bc we dislike rats.

Didn't mean anything by it. I was just trying out some black humour in relation to tge differences between how men and women act in public and society in general.
Not the right post/time for it.
Apologies! My bad.

I was overstating for black humour. Primarily as a ref. 2 the fact that men always feel safe enough to kick back and read a book anywhere, but it's very easy 2 c y a woman wouldn't feel safe doing likewise.
Not they *should* always feel unsafe, or they r *failing* 2 stay safe.
I gotta stop joking.

I was overstating any risk this might pose for black comedic effect. And peripheral vision isn't likely 2 b impaired by that pose, the book needs, as u say, 2 b close to the face.
Honest, ppl asked y there were no pics of women reading, and my mind was like 'women can't relax that much in public'.

Well, they aren't in the wrong, but society is.

Well, they aren't in the wrong, but society is.
Obviously! They aren't at fault.
My reference was more 2 the idea that the pics show several men clearly relaxed and at ease, oblivious to the world around them, fearing no harm.
It's just difficult 4 me to imagine a woman being able 2 adopt such behaviour w/o negative consequences.
Which sucks.

Do you really think it's smart for women to have their attention focused on a book in public? A phone screen at least doesn't obscure peripheral vision.
