I mean, let's be clear. Heated Rivalry was never queer. Nothing that's easily accessible for the reader or viewer is queer. The only really queer media is zines printed with the contributors' blood and then immediately incinerated. Everything else is straighty straight straight.

One worldbuilding technique you can use for yourself is to place value judgements on something you're describing... but only partially, to give an open trail for thinking about mores and customs and mentalités, as it were. You can even do it without outré sex jokes. If you must.
