A rough listen, but there’s so much gold dust in there.

As ever, Beatles fans across the world are doing the best work in remixing/restoring Beatles audio. Thanks to these diligent souls, the ropey Star-Club recordings are getting better all the time.

If PJ’s tech is the best out there, then surely it’s only a matter of time?

If this happens a lot (which I think it will), the short term benefit will be that the box set will come down in price in a few months. The long term benefit will be that the new set of fans who watch Anthology on Disney+ will hopefully have a more affordable box. Not what Apple wanted, but hey!

I suspect there’ll be an influx of people doing this. What a shame. This whole project could’ve been done so much better.

And the standalone was about £2!

Glad they’ve seen sense, but I hope not too many people have already paid for the boxset in order to get Anthology 4.

New Beatles info!

Why Don’t we do it in the Road?, which was recorded on 9 October 1968, also makes a brief appearance on another White Album song recorded more than four months earlier.

Have a listen to this isolated backing track from 20/31 May 1968:

“P.S. No. A.K. at M.S.G. if it’s uncool” is rather touching. Why didn’t you say that in January 1969, John!

Fascinating 1972 letters from John to Paul, proposing a joint performance with The Rolling Stones at the One to One gigs. And, perhaps, a show in Ireland.

They’d previously met up on 29th Jan ‘72 (the day before Bloody Sunday)

Neither are a lot of old farts lime me anymore. But enough still will to cover costs. It’s a long term strategy - and streaming is the obvious way to attract a new audience. That’s why the new Anthologies are (mostly) already streaming. Hence, don’t hold your breath for COL/Rubber Soul box set etc

We’re not the target market anymore, unfortunately

Both collections have an accompanying book, but only available separately. Much of this will be focused on streaming - especially the Anthology series on Disney+ - the physical media is for old farts like me!

Man, they’re in for a nice surprise when they discover the Ringo album!

I get the feeling that Apple and Capitol/MPL are washing their hands of too much investment in an ever-ageing demographic (in which I’m happy to nestle) - and pretty well leaving all of that to the bootleggers

(And the book is surely no coincidence). Fair play for keeping the legacy going.

I get the feeling this release is part 2 of the Anthology reboot. Designed for a new generation of intrigued fans who’ll inevitably discover The Beatles via the Anthologies, and then perhaps think, “I wonder what else they did after they split?”
