Hurrah. We mustn't let the likes of Musk redefine censorship. It is a tool of last resort when people won't accept that there are limits on free speech. Creating and spreading illegal imagery is one example of what *should* be censored. And we shouldn't be shy about using the word appropriately.

I wrote about this two years ago, and asked government departments if they had any plans for official gov.ie instances
.
Presumably the idea is still under review.

Mastodon: The Network Effect
The defining online event for journalism in 2023, and likely in 2024, is likely to be the continuing self-inflicted implosion of Elon Musk.

Far too many people had fallen for the "twitter is the new public square" trope long before Elon ever came along, and we're now reaping the consequences of that failure of analysis.

I wouldn't, however, advise the BBC to delete all its posts -- there may be some historical value to them. Archive them, definitely. Also I would advise *against* the BBC deleting its accounts there, as that would free up the handles to be used by impersonators.

I remember asking their voting method: Each of them voted for their preferred local candidates from FF and FG to get the 1 and the 2 (applied depending on parent), the next preferences going to FF and FG candidates from other towns.

My favourite anecdote regarding her: she knew my parents, especially that one was an FF supporter and the other an FG supporter. When campaigning along our road at one time, she stopped one of her team walking up our garden path with "Don't bother. They cancel each other out."

TBF, I would have let them learn all by themselves that it wasn't.

On holidays at my dad’s a few years ago my kiddo found his stash of still-in-wrapper blank C90 cassette tapes.

The blissful silence for 2 days while kiddo tried to figure out what they were and what they were used for was golden.
