It's hugely underrated how much Blair - and New Labour more broadly - changed over time. Early New Labour was much more interesting, more intellectually curious, less technocratic and more open to influences from the left than it later became - and certainly than its later epigones.

So confirming a majority of Tory members and a good portion of the press are just plain thick.
