I will also add that if you're interested in playing hockey, WHAM is a great organization for getting women into the sport in the twin cities. They have a hockey 101 class, and its truly for beginners. My wife did it and loved it. She still plays with the team she joined with 4ish years ago.

I did take some skating lessons. Several years ago, St Louis Park had hockey skating for adult novices. But mostly YouTube videos and being willing to look like an idiot in public.

Here is my proposal: Minneapolis Parks should start to develop a network of canals throughout the city. These canals will freeze over in the winter and get plowed to be used for transportation by skate.
