I’m not trashing her either. But like many exceptional people she has a complex legacy and this is one aspect of it which many of us can’t ignore. Obama and others warned her of the risk, yet ultimately she made a decision from self-interest that contributed to the loss of Roe.

If that were true, then why have Democrats held the presidency for 12 of the last 16 years? It’s almost like major mistakes were made in the 2024 cycle & learning from them might lead to better outcomes in the future….

Lmao what a ludicrous, defeatist response. My analysis is a monster won because the Dems failed to convince enough voters they were a better alternative. That’s a disastrous failure, so they either learn from it & make some needed changes, or else just give up now & be a permanent opposition party.

I mean…obviously. Which is why no one is blaming Biden/Garland for GOP’s current actions - they’re blaming them for doing such a dire job at preventing a highly dangerous (yet also flawed & extremely beatable) candidate like Trump from being re-elected.

We’re just responding to the examples you yourself provided. Agree the failure to turn out was a big part of the 2024 disaster, but we can’t put our head in the sand for the reasons an aberration like Trump was able to make a more appealing case to voters than Dems did.

Disagree. The GOP is depraved, but it’s not an unstoppable force, else why did they lose in 2020 & 2022? Dems had a responsibility to mount a robust defence against them - which they ultimately failed to do - & learning lessons means fighting back more effectively.

It hardly called for clairvoyance though - she was 80 in 2013 when Obama asked her to step down, and by that point had already been treated for colon and pancreatic cancer.

We gain insight & resolve going forward. These were catastrophic yet preventable decisions by powerful leaders, which many of us were attacked for pointing out at the time. Refusing to critically examine our own side helped get us here & isn’t something we should be continuing or encouraging.

Both are true, and we do ourselves a disservice by not holding our own side to account. These were powerful, privileged leaders, not hapless victims. It was clear early on how disastrous Garland’s weakness & Biden’s selfishness would be, yet many of us were attacked at the time for saying so.

Completely agree she was in the wrong but the treatment seems ludicrously OTT. A friend of mine was detained at customs a few years ago after they discovered she was due to give some paid lectures at a university. She was only held for a few hours then just put on the first flight back to the UK.
