• The NECP revision process was a missed opportunity to embed a fair and just transition in Ireland’s climate policy framework.

• Ireland’s SCP acts as a key just transition initiative to deliver tangible social and environmental benefits for those most impacted by the costs of the transition.
ejni.bsky.social
Key findings:

• A glaring gap remains in addressing structural causes of energy poverty

• Ireland must significantly improve public participation processes and ensure inclusion of vulnerable communities in both design and implementation of these plans

The EU is making critical decisions on the 2040 climate target 🎯

This crucial policy debate offers Ireland a unique opportunity to provide international leadership 🗣️ & ensure the EU meets the net emissions reductions of 90% by 2040 as recommended by the @esabcc.bsky.social

👏 TRUST 👏 THE 👏 SCIENCE 👏

Amid political discussions on weakening the 2040 climate target with 'flexibility' options - @esabcc.bsky.social has today stood up for science.

@caneurope.org's @harmeling.bsky.social reacts:
Quote from Sven Harmeling, Head of Climate, CAN Europe:

‘The scientists have spoken that the EU can and must deliver a 90-95% domestic emissions cut by 2040 - without loopholes or international offsets. Undermining the target with so-called ‘flexibilities’ would jeopardise fairness, delay innovation and increase long-term costs. The European Commission, Member States and the European Parliament must trust the science, act early and adopt 2035 and 2040 targets that are aligned with climate reality’.

📉 Climate ambition must be matched by climate action. Without solid financing & policy follow-through, National Energy and Climate Plans will stay on paper.
