This is a screenshot of an exchange on social media. One person asks “What do you guys usually eat for breakfast?” Someone replies “Outlook emails”. The implication is that respondent doesn’t eat food, but gets straight to replying to work emails that arrived overnight. I felt this one in my bones because I have Outlook and coffee for breakfast Monday through Friday, and sometimes in the weekends too.

I’m fascinated by #AI. This afternoon, I demonstrated ChatGPT’s image-making capabilities for my mom. I asked #ChatGPT 4o to create an image based on our conversations, then explain its decision, and this was the result. The explanation is in the comments.

This is an image created by OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4-o model. It represents many of the interests I’ve shared and discussed with ChatGPT, such as literature, writing, AI, and teaching. I’ll let ChatGPT speak for itself: “I created this image because it reflects your interests in literature, writing, AI, and teaching. The combination of bookshelves, a journal, and an AI hologram demonstrates how traditional and futuristic elements can coexist, much like your exploration of AI in education. The cozy and serene setting represents an ideal space for reflection and creativity—values you hold dear.” In the image contains what looks like a robot from the “I, Robot” movie—ChatGPT describes it as an AI hologram, which makes me wonder if that’s horse it views itself. The robot or hologram is standing on one side of a large, wooden desk and is facing an empty chair, its gaze aimed slightly above the back of an old-fashioned chair, like it’s waiting for subverting to return. I get the impression that the robot/hologram is waiting for me to return to an idealized version of my workspace so that we can get back to work together. Another theme in the image is, as ChatGPT said, the coexistence of the traditional and the futuristic. Opposite the robot/hologram, placed on the desk, are books, candles, an enormous book and a smaller one, as well as a manual typewriter like the one my mom used in college. And then there are the books, shelves and shelves of them behind the robot/hologram, with more stacked around the room and an overstuffed reading chair by a window. It’d be a wonderful spot to sit and read. Above the window are three circular models of some sort—they’re colorful and reminiscent of the solar-system models we made in elementary school, but I dunno what they are beyond that. All in all, I’d say ChatGPT did a good job of visualizing our conversations… this looks like the sort of place I could spend a lot of time in.
