the horrors persist, but so does dragon age

Like, I've played the first 3 eight times, but DA2 is the shortest.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
I think DA2, but only because it takes the least amount of time to play.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Yes, even quite recently. I meet and regularly talk to people I would never get to otherwise.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

I always forget that people in other places know about her, because she's just...here, buying buildings and turning them into family resource centres.

I had today blocked off as a Total Submersion Workday, too.

I'm glad they display the numbers separately, because sometimes it'll be like "the average is 3!", but my triggers will be 8 or 9.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Oh, also Nadiya Hussein's pizza pull apart, which sometimes I just use to make cheese bread.

Me: I feel weird. I should check the migraine app.
Me: Yeah, good night.
The migraine forecast for my area. Not great average, REALLY not great pressure.

I like James Morton's Mug Bread recipe (he has a video where he does it), but I use warm milk instead of water to start the yeast and then I give the yeast a bit of sugar when I mix it in, as a little treat.

Anyway, one time I phoned an author I'd had like one group conversation with to ask a money question and she HAPPENED to be at lunch with three other authors, and it was EXTREMELY helpful, but also not having industry standards can be exhausting.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Like, I am reasonably sure that my first real conversation with @chuckwendig.bsky.social was something like "Hi, I'm EK Johnston, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU GOT ROYALTIES?!?", and it's literally never comfortable, but it's very, very necessary.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
A fun thing about being an author is trying to find the balance between being polite and asking other authors what they got paid so you can make sure you're all getting a fair deal.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
I don't regret my IP work for many, many reasons, but every time I need to do an improvement on my house I wish they paid proper royalties.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
it's only the bottom of the FIFTH who scheduled this game
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Quebec wants to be Islamophobic, Alberta wants to be transphobic, Saskatchewan wants both, Ontario mostly wants to never be told what to do with Federal money, and Nova Scotia is...also Conservative.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Federal Government: We would like you to stop using the notwithstanding clause to violate the Charter of Rights.
Provincial Government: How dare you! How else are we supposed to violate the Charter of Rights?
ekjohnston.bsky.social
I do receive comments (usually telling they hope I die or that I should kill myself), but I have disengaged a LOT since 2018.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Of course he doesn't, because Ford is also a fucking bully.
ekjohnston.bsky.social
Ford: The trade deal absence is like a kid going out to the playground everyday and getting punched. It's time to fight back.
Me: You...you realize that you don't blame the kid getting punched, right? RIGHT?

Hey friendos: what are some things my 82-yo mother can do to keep herself safe in upcoming Chicago protests? She's a brave old darling, but she'll feel better if she knows what to do in case of tear gas, etc, and can go prepared
rachelhartmanbooks.com
My 82-yo mother, who has continued regularly protesting these long three months, has concluded all on her own that the reason the US govt. is defunding cancer research is EUGENICS. Except she didn't know the word. "You know, they're hoping only the FITTEST survive." Yes, Ma, I know.

Shout-out to my 82-year-old mother, off to the #NoKings rally in Chicago today! Wish I could have extended my visit for a day and gone with her, but a bunch of her elderly friends will be there marching (or wheeling) and shouting together.

It was an adventure for everyone on my Twitter and also for several independently formed group chats.

It's a good thing I only had to bite my tongue metaphorically @ekjohnston.bsky.social, or I'd have had to find out what happens if you do that at the same time as you're guffawing.
A tweet by E. K. Johnston from 2019
(NO SPOILERS, please, even if I am right about something)

I REALLY dislike the Kirkwall Chantry. Like, the building itself. I don't know why. Maybe its the candles? Anyway, I want it to die and I don't think I can kill a building.

Dusting off my account to share that SPLINTER & ASH 2: CITY OF SECRETS is out now!

This series is my love letter to the fantasy adventures that I grew up on, but with a disabled princess and a nonbinary squire taking the lead in the fight to make their wartorn kingdom kinder and fairer. 💙
Hardcover copies of SPLINTER & ASH: CITY OF SECRETS on top of paperback copies of SPLINTER & ASH. An illustrated cover, with wonderful art by Vivienne To, shows the two main characters.

There was a moment, in the Darkspawn Chronicles when I realized I was going to have to fight my friends, and right before I went out on the roof, I realized that included the dog.

...witch hunt lol

That's....the point, though. The person singing the song is NOT Ophelia. It has nothing to do with the literature, anymore than Love Story did. It's the framework to convey a feeling, and then her own story.
