One of my favorite aspects of Timbuktu is Sissako’s portrait of small, secretive acts of rebellion under authoritarianism.

Here’s the thing that I wish Americans would realize: ANYTHING is possible if we turn out in large enough numbers. Many other countries, at many times in history, have set this example for us. The people get furious and spill out onto the streets in the millions…and regime change happens. 🫰
