Ok, that wasn’t a good point—my fault. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t make some good points anyway.

I see that you only focus on the negative aspects of what I’m saying, so I don’t think I can have a healthy debate with you.

Have a great day! :)

Damn if it had some device recognition first I might even use it as a wildcard installer for my multiple devices. Like I have a single boot USB, I plug it to a raspberry PI and I can have raspbian installed in a matter of minutes without having to download and burn the image myself.

Think about someone who doesn’t have a computer yet or a complete Linux newbie.

I know I wouldn’t need this, but I can think of a dozen people who would benefit from it a lot.

And that's why I said it should just be an LLM prompt on boot asking you "what you want to do with your computer?", it should not try to download anything until you actually decided to install whatever you ended up choosing.

You have an internet connection, so it should just be a confirmation at the end based on your guessed location. That’s how it currently works in the menu you mentioned (your location is usually prefilled there if you’re connected to the internet)

You're focusing on a single distro with predefined packages, my idea was more global, like if you tell it you're gonna focus on gaming, it could suggest you installing SteamOS (based on other questions or stuff you said on the prompt)

Someone tell him he actually has to sell to make money—a screenshot won’t put food on the table... or will it? damn, what a time to be alive...

WTF a Montoya meme, really…?

I don’t think you should change its name anyways. I’m the kind of person who uses names with double meaning like yours (even though you did without knowing), so I actually like it more like this ^^

Something like ventoy, but more like a liveCD (or liveUSB nowadays), so you would boot from it and see the ai prompt asking you “what do you want to use your computer for?”

lmao “linutil” in catalan means “the useless” 😅

ofc I understand it comes from Linux Util, but curious coincidence 😂

You think so? I use LLMs daily to create full apps—how is that so different from installing a distro? I don’t think it should be much more complex.

The real challenge, I guess, would be running an LLM as an installer, but I bet there are people capable of making it work.

This is cool, and made me think about something even cooler. A distro installer that only opens an AI prompt asking you "what do you want to use your computer for?", and from there and a series of prompts, end up configuring your linux distro
