Combat cruelty:
- Prohibit commercial sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits in Jersey City.
- Ban backyard breeding of companion animals in Jersey City.
- Continue Jersey City’s enforcement efforts of animal welfare and animal cruelty laws.

Support people & animals:
- Recognize that abandoned, stray, and feral domestic animals are also a public health concern and an environmental justice concern, in addition to an animal welfare concern.
- Fund pet retention programs to keep pets in their homes and reduce financial owner surrenders.
- Work with homeless shelters and affordable housing developers to create options for pets and their owners who are experiencing housing insecurity.

Compassion for ferals & strays:
- Ensure the animal shelter is fully staffed and funded.
- Allocate funding for and make every effort to recruit an in-house high-volume spay/neuter veterinarian.
- Create a public awareness spay/neuter/vaccinate campaign for pet owners.
- Allocate a budget for reimbursement of certain Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) costs. Existing TNR work for feral cats in Jersey City is nearly exclusively done by volunteers at great personal expense.

Yesterday’s Ukrainian Jersey City Vyshyvanka 5k Run/Walk! This was the #JerseyCity Ukrainian community’s 5th annual 5k, and my 2nd time running in it. Yesterday Jersey City Pride turned 25, and the celebration was one to remember!

Joy is a form of resistance. And in a time when LGBTQIA+ rights and even safety are increasingly under attack, it’s more important than ever to stand up, be loud, and fight for the community at the local level. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

NJ must pass the Climate Superfund Act now. We need climate mitigation & adaptation to protect from increasingly-severe disasters. This costs $, but damages from inaction are many times more costly. So how do we fund climate infrastructure without overburdening taxpayers? Answer: make polluters pay!
