"We have everything we need in abundance" - from a local community fridge flyer.

This phrase is burrowing itself deep inside my brain today. What if that was a foundational societal assumption, and we built from there?

When I was a little kid, I listened the crap out of a cassette of vaguely Halloween-themed pop music. I looked it up recently - it was Hallmark's "The Sounds of Halloween": Thriller, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, and more.

This year I learned just how wrong my little kid memories of it were. 🧵

This is actually for sale at Spirit.

We asked nicely and got to sit in the front of the Disneyland Monorail today, with the pilot. Bucket list item checked off.

Bonus picture of the controls!

I bought the Tron: Ares soundtrack on CD, my fist physical album in maybe a decade. It's in this little cardboard sleeve, and I'm kind of disappointed to not have a new jewel case in my life.

Bring back Michael Eisner.

The greatest crossover since Endgame?

I watched a giant cutter/grabber (technical term) tear apart the Rip Ride Rockit coaster track today. Has Universal considered that people (me) would pay significant amounts of money to do a little bit of this work myself? It looks so fun & satisfying!

Thanks to construction rerouting, this year HHN provided an unusual chance to see my favorite piece of the Berlin Wall from the other side of the fence.

I also visited the bathroom outside former Nickelodeon Studios, & it still has green tiles in the shape of slime on the floor.

Incredible night.

Back on my bullshit, never happier

You'll see the prices in some of those screenshots - they're all expensive. And available in a variety of sizes and frames to add even more $$. I blew my whole souvenir budget on two, and couldn't be happier:

It got even weirder. There were 10 different portraits of Walt Disney, available in absurd sizes.

And don't get me started on the selection of movie posters. Who would possibly pay hundreds for a canvas reprint of the Chicken Little poster? (7/9)

And this was one of my favorites. Who wouldn't want Revolutionary Figment above their hearth? (6/9)

What about the 2017 Herb Ryman Festival of the Arts poster that I spent years tracking down?

Of course they've got two versions of it, just hanging out and available for anyone all this time. (5/9)

Then I found the obscure rabbit holes, and oh boy. There's an entire category called Epcot Festivals.

Would you like the poster from the 2011 Food & Wine Festival? Or the 2010 Flower and Garden? Right this way!

First there's the obvious picks, like just about any piece of art you've seen anywhere onboard. Do you like the art above the bed in your room? Take it home! (2/9)

I collect posters, with a specific side-interest in theme park prints. I went on my 1st Disney cruise recently, where I encountered the greatest danger of my life: The art on demand kiosk.

They print from a catalog & mail it home. You can only order while onboard. The selection is wild.

This Coke machine at Animal Kingdom Lodge's bus stop is set to $99.95/bottle. I'm sure it's a mistake, but with a card swiper attached I'll bet someone paid it without looking.

A coke in a Disney gift shop is up to $5.30 now - almost as ridiculous.

This is the survey draft that prompted these suggestions. Zero of the suggestions are even tangentially related to anything I typed. (3/3)

Another chunk of suggestions on the same survey is all about coffee makers, complete with a typo in the last one. (2/3)

Drafting a survey in Microsoft Forms, and it's doing a thing where it suggests questions (via AI I assume?) to include. My survey is almost blank, and this is what's it thinks I should research I guess. This is weird & useless. (1/3)
