mixed up my Far Side references but there was a tragic fatality during my Air Riders session today 😔

they shoulda called this game Swoop Kart World, I was in this room as Peepa but switched to Swoop when I saw how many of them there were, eventually we got 10 Swoops in a 24-player lobby

oh!! today is the 20th anniversary of Mario Kart DS! it released in the United States today, and in other regions worldwide throughout the following months.
I thought it'd be fun to compare how far portable gaming has come in 20 years, viewing the same scene in two different games two decades apart.

The Nintendo DS can render racers and tracks in 3D, but the low-resolution textures and low-poly character models look rather quaint nowadays. The same scene of Mario driving through Airship Fortress, but now in Mario Kart World. The Nintendo Switch 2 can handle a lot more than the DS, with a high-definition display and very detailed settings and expressive characters.

The Elephant Fruit from Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a red apple-like fruit with the ears and bulbous trunk of an elephant, as well as small beady eyes like many Mario power-ups. This item turns whoever obtains it into a cartoony anthropomorphic elephant, including significantly increasing both their height and their width.
