“do more Salvia” does not have precisely the same connotation here as “plant more Salvia” and I’m reasonably sure from context you didn’t mean it the other so thought you might want to know

it’s definitely a mistake to use a paraphrase as a substitute for a proper translation, but an intentional paraphrase by a human author is also not the same as asking LLMs to dumb a book down so you can avoid hard words

I generally find it works better for prose sections than poetic sections, but when I was regularly leading bible study in grad school we would typically do NIV, ESV, and MSG side by side and I would make people track back the OT quotes and read their whole surrounding contexts

The Message is not a “translation” in the usual sense but it is a useful read alongside one precisely because it aims to sound drastically different while preserving the meaning, so it provokes “wait I have to go back and read the familiar text more closely to see if that’s right”.
